Dr. Karen Samuels, Ph.D, C.E.D.S., is a psychologist, lifelong yogi, workshop leader, and keynote presenter.  

She has published extensively on a number of issues related to prevention in the field of body image disturbance and disordered eating, treatment of eating disorders across the lifespan, authoring Disordered Eating, Eating Disorders and Body Image in Midlife and Older Women, in Current Psychiatry Reports, 8, 2019.

Continuing her interest in body image, weight, and shape concerns, Dr. Samuels has dedicated her life to the field of eating disorders. She lectures across the U.S. and published on topics such as eating disorder prevention and treatment of women at midlife and beyond. She developed positive self/body esteem workshops delivered to thousands of middle school girls.

Yoga Practitioner

Continuing her interest in body image, weight, and shape concerns, Karen has dedicated her life to the field of eating disorders.

Karen began her yoga studies in 1970. In 1980, she completed a 6 month YTT at the Yoga Institute of Miami, and in 1981, YTT at Center for Yoga, Los Angeles. Teaching full time during the 1980’s, her doctoral dissertation (1987) examined yoga as a foundation during pregnancy for first time mothers, noting the benefits to anxiety and body image. A lifelong yogi, she studies with many internationally respected yoga teachers.


Keynote Presenter

Dr. Samuels has dedicated her life to the field of eating disorders. She lectures nationally and internationally and is published on topics such as eating disorder prevention and treatment of women at midlife and beyond. She also has published a Textbook chapter n Race, Work and Leadership: New Perspectives on The Black Experience (Harvard Business Press). She developed media literacy/positive self/body esteem workshops delivered to thousands of middle school girls.
